DAY 1
Our journey begins with a meeting at the Socotra airport, where a local guide will be waiting for us, who will be with us throughout the tour.
Acquaintance with the island will begin on the west coast of the island – with Detwa Lagoon and the second largest city of Qalansiya. Detwa Lagoon is a protected area with incredibly beautiful beaches, where many birds, bizarrely shaped fish live, and there are also white sand dunes that you can climb.
After lunch, we will go on an exciting hike to the highest point of the area. This is certainly one of the best views of the island.
Dinner and overnight at the camp.
DAY 2
The next day we will get up early to take a breathtaking boat ride along the cliffs of the west coast to Shoab Beach, where you can swim, sunbathe and enjoy fresh seafood. On the way to the beach we will stop to swim in an incredibly beautiful lagoon, where we will also have a great opportunity to swim with dolphins!
After lunch we will go on a trek to visit Abdullah, a local resident, who will show us the cave where he was born and spent several years of his life. Abdullah will feed us the freshest seafood, tell interesting stories from his life.
Dinner and overnight at the camp.
DAY 3
Today we will spend three hours on the road with stops for photos near the dragon tree and Russian tanks. Then we go down to the southern coast, from where a panoramic view of the Indian Ocean opens up. Our goal is Aomak beach with its immaculate snow-white sands.
The second half of the day is dedicated to one of Socotra’s breathtaking attractions – the desert inside the island. The sight of the dazzling white sand dunes of Zahak delights even the most experienced travelers. We will climb, descend, meditate and wander around, admiring the stunning views before sunset.
Dinner and overnight at a campsite in the middle of the dunes.
DAY 4
After breakfast we will visit the Dagub Cave. The grotto is filled with very interesting rock formations, it has long been used by villagers for ritual purposes and also during the monsoon season to shelter their cattle.
Next we leave the coast, heading towards the Dixam Plateau – the true homeland of the Dragon Tree. Around the plateau there are small Bedouin villages. We will descend into the impressive Dirhur Gorge, the depth of which reaches 700 meters, opening up views of landscapes untouched by human hands. Descending down to the Wadi Dirhur Canyon, we will find an oasis with fresh water, surrounded by granite rocks, where you can cool off in fresh water.
We will continue our journey through the unique, bizarrely shaped Fermin forest, where the famous “dragon’s blood” trees grow! Here we will encounter the famous local resin and its miraculous properties. We’ll set up camp in the middle of the forest, watch a movie and have dinner.
A night in a camp in the middle of the Fermin forest.
DAY 5
Today we will move to the eastern part of the island – to Arher Beach. There we will see impressive sand dunes contrasting with steep cliffs.
Just imagine: 200-meter dunes formed by monsoons surround a freshwater stream coming out of a cave in a granite massif and end on the beach.
At sunset, we will move to one of the most amazing places on the island – the confluence of the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. The beauty of this place leaves no one indifferent!
Our way back lies through the traditional village of Erissel. Here, on the easternmost tip of the island, we will visit a Soktri family, look at the life of local residents, taste tea with ginger, talk to the locals, and witness the outstanding work of local fishermen.
DAY 6
On the sixth day of our journey we wake up early to climb one of the many dunes to meet the sunrise. The dunes reach 200 meters in height and the climb will take us an hour. The Archer Dunes are the best place to greet a new day and the best place for stunning photographs!
Then we return to the camp for breakfast and then take another trek to the natural pool Infinity Pool. Our path will follow a narrow goat path that will lead to the protected area of Homhill and will take an hour. Then we will plunge into the magnificent waters of the natural pool with a view of the turquoise sea below.
We will learn that Homhill is home to Dracaena Cinnabari, Frankincense trees and Adenium Obesum.
Then we return to the camp for lunch. In the afternoon we will be able to relax in the surrounding serenity.
DAY 7
After breakfast we head towards Wadi Kalissan, one of Socotra’s hidden wonders. The dirt road heading southeast passes through some very remote areas of the island where we can best experience Socotra’s otherworldly, even alien, landscape. A 30-minute walk takes us to a spectacular series of turquoise freshwater pools fed by small waterfalls set in smooth white limestone.
This is a truly unique place for swimming, jumping and rock climbing.
In the afternoon we drive to the nearby Dihamri Marine Protected Area. This is one of the richest coral reefs in the archipelago.
Here we can snorkel, enjoying a unique mix of underwater flora and fauna such as parrot fish, moray eels, sea urchins, barracudas, sea turtles and other inhabitants of the local fauna.
Farewell dinner and overnight at the camp on Dihamri beach.
